The fire, that is anticipated to have been triggered by a short circuit, quickly spread after coming into contact with batteries stored in a section of the factory, police said.

“The security men at the factory saw smoke emanating from the manufacturing section and raised an alarm. We were informed about the accident around 3am and immediately rushed fire engines to the spot,” said Akhilesh Pradhan, station house officer (SHO), Phase 3 police station, said.

Fire safety officer, Radheshyam Singh said, “The company officials said they had stored a large amount of equipment to roll out during Diwali. A section of the factory, where power-banks are manufactured, was gutted in the fire.”

The batteries consist of highly inflammable material and they might have come into contact with fire somehow, Singh said.

He said no one was injured in the incident. Firefighters put out the flames before they could spread to other parts of the factory, Singh said. The fire was put out completely by 5am, he added.

Deepali Choudhary, the company’s spokesperson, said, “We had stored a lot of equipment that were to be sold during Diwali. The power-bank storing section has been reduced to ashes. The LEDs & monitors section has also suffered extensive damage in the fire. A fresh consignment of batteries had arrived only a few days ago.”

We are still assessing the quantum of losses in the incident, she added.
