Based on the description provided by Ramu, the driver who was allegedly kidnapped by four men at gunpoint, police have released a sketch of one of the suspects.

The incident points to a major lapse in law and order on the part of Noida police as the suspect had abducted the man at gunpoint from the busy Maharaja Agrasen Road near GIP Mall in Sector 38A around 4.30pm on Friday.

Ramu, the driver of the SUV, was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified men, while he was waiting for his boss in a Toyota Crysta. The suspects took the SUV and dumped Ramu near Rajnagar Extension in Ghaziabad around 7pm the same day, the police said.

The road, connecting DND Flyway and Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, is generally busy at any given time of the day and an abduction on this stretch has brought to the fore the loopholes in Noida police’s security measures.

“The road is always busy and a police response vehicle is always stationed near GIP Mall, but still the suspects managed to kidnap a person and rob him of the SUV. Either the gang is well-versed in carrying out such robberies, or the story might be entirely different,” said Dixit, adding that Ramu’s account of the robbery also appears doubtful.

“We are scanning CCTV cameras installed near GIP Mall and along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway to obtain more clues. In one of the CCTV footages, the vehicles were seen passing over Mahamaya flyover towards Dadri-Delhi Link Road. Probably, the suspects had taken U-turn from Mahamaya flyover and had gone towards Ghaziabad,” Dixit said.

The sketch has been provided to other police stations as well to identify the suspect. If he is a repeat offender, some police station must have his details, the police officer said.
