Women ‘raped’, man killed: National women’s body visits Jewar, talks to victims, officials

A team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Saturday visited the house of the four women, who were allegedly raped by six highway robbers on Thursday.

The team, led by Alok Rawat, interacted with BN Singh, district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, Love Kumar, senior superintendent of police and chief medical officer Dr Anurag Bhargav.

An official said the purpose of the NCW’s visit was to inquire about the police investigation and steps taken by the district administration.

BN Singh gave a detailed report to the NCW team. He told them that Rs 30, 000 has been given to the family members after the incident and free schooling would be provided to the seven children of the man who was shot dead.

Singh also told them that the administration has started the process for providing pension to the wife of the deceased and old-age pension to the father of the deceased.

On Monday, a bank account will be opened for the beneficiaries.

The district administration will submit a detailed report of the case to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath for granting further assistance to the family. It will be the chief minister’s prerogative whether to sanction the family financial assistance.

Love Kumar also discussed the stages of investigations with the NCW members. Kumar was asked in detail about the complaint filed by the women and the action taken by the police so far.

The chief medical officer told the team that initial medical reports did not confirm rape as claimed by the women. Hence, samples have been sent to forensic laboratory in Lucknow for further tests.

After visiting these officials, the NCW team went to the spot where the murder and the alleged rapes took place. Later ,they visited the family members and inquired about the incident.

The lone woman member of the team interacted with the four women and their statements were recorded before the magistrate in Greater Noida.
