PV Sindhu created history on Friday by becoming the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics, and congratulatory messages on her remarkable achievement flooded social media timelines.

In a nail-biting finale of the badminton women’s singles at the Rio 2016, the 21-year-old Hyderabad girl won the first game 21-19, winning five points on the trot. But Spain’s Carolina Marin, a two-time world champion, came back strong in a power-packed second game.
In the deciding game, Sindhu fought hard to erase Marin’s initial lead to trail 11-10 at break, but was unable to maintain momentum thereafter. She narrowly missed the gold, finishing 21-15 in an intensely fought final game.
