Gautam Singhania to vie for FIA World Motor Sports Council seat

Gautam Singhania has driven a Formula 1 car in France, and has also actively raced in the Ferrari Challenge. He will contest the FIA elections in Paris in December.

India’s Gautam Singhania is eyeing a berth in the international automobile federation’s World Motor Sports Council. The FIA elections will be held in Paris on December 8.

The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, the governing body of motor racing in India, said Singhania’s name was nominated for the Titular’s post by the Board earlier this week.

Gautam Singhania and Vicky Chandhok were the two names that were put up to the Board for consideration, but Singhania was the majority’s choice. If elected, Singhania will replace Vijay Mallya.

Singhania, a well known industrialist, has driven a Formula 1 car in France, and has also actively raced in the Ferrari Challenge.

The FIA AGM will not only form a new World Motor Sports Council but will also chose a new president and seven vice-presidents for a four-year term.

The WMSC board consists of 14 elected members, voted by 196 members. The president of the FMSCI Akbar Ebrahim will vote on behalf of India.
