They may be spending Valentine’s Day away from each other but a lifetime of togetherness awaits the wrestling couple Sakshi Malik and Satyawart Kadian. The couple are getting hitched in April this year. “On Valentine’s Day, I’ll be busy training in Lucknow, while Satyawart will be training in Sonipat, it’s a very sad feeling,”says Rio Olympics bronze medallist Malik who got engaged in October to 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Kadian.
Currently, Sakshi is gearing up for Asian Championship 2017. For her wedding, which is scheduled for April 2, she has red in mind for her bridal wear and she is also keeping a tab on the latest trends. She says, “Preparations have just started and would only speed up ten days before the day. I haven’t got time to buy the lehenga yet but will do so once my training in Lucknow winds up. Training is keeping me busy for more than six hours a day.” Sakshi is happy that post marriage she would get to train with Kadian.
Sakshi feels being in the same field has its advantages. On how love blossomed between the two, the wrestler, says: “We both are from Rohtak. We met and bonded through our common love for wrestling. He’s very supportive. It’s a great feeling that we both are taking part in several competitions and are receiving accolades for the same, there couldn’t be a happier feeling than this. We often give tips to each other to improve our wrestling techniques.”

{{/usCountry}}Sakshi lauds Dangal, a film based on the life of wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat. She feels such films have helped the sport reach new heights. “Now people have started paying heed to wrestling and have started understanding the nuances of the game through films like Dangal and Sultan.” On whether she would want a biopic to be made on her life too, she says: “Agar usse wrestling upar jaayegi aur movie banegi toh koi problem nahi hai (I wouldn’t mind, if through the film, the popularity of the sport burgeons even more).”
