45-year-old Koregaon Park resident shoots himself to death, police suspect failed business as the motive

A man shot himself in the head at his residence in Koregaon Park in the late hours of Sunday. The man was identified as Vishal Vijaysingh Lavand, 45, a resident of Archana Meadows Society in Lane G of Koregaon Park.

Lavand lived in the house with his parents, wife and two daughters. When the incident happened, his parents were in the house, while his wife was away with their daughters.

After his parents heard a gunshot, they ran towards the source of the sound to find their son with a bullet in his head. The weapon was licensed in Lavand's name, according to police.

Lavand’s neighbours informed the police control room of the incident and Lavand’s body was taken to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem. Police will record the family members' statements in order to ascertain the reason behind the drastic step.

"His pharmacy shop shut down around two years ago and he ran out of business. We do not know the details of the reason behind the shut down," said Nikhil Pawar, police sub-inspector, who is investigating the case. Police suspect that the pharmacy shop shutdown and the repercussions that followed could be the reason for his actions. The pharmacy is located near his residence in Lane G, Koregaon park, the police said.
