“We had a discussion and next week, we will be create 10 bee colonies on the 500-acre land inside the Yerwada Jail premises,” said Laxmi Rao, senior scientist Laxmi Rao from CBRTI.

“This is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sweet kranti mission. The idea is to have one lakh and twenty five thousand bee colonies across India and create awareness about the importance of honey bees, as they are the best pollinators and help increase the yield of farmers by 25 to 35 per cent with the right kind of pollination. There is also another agenda behind putting these colonies. It which will help create jobs for the unemployed youths as we will be training them in bee keeping, after which they can sell the honey to make a livelihood,” said Rao.
