The Maratha bandh imposed in Pune on Thursday has caused yet another delay in the first year junior college admissions. The fourth merit list was announced on Tuesday.
The officials concerned confirmed that the Class 11 admission to junior colleges will be halted due to bandh and the procedure is likely to see extension.
Speaking about the situation, Meenakshi Raut, deputy director of education, Pune said, “Due to the Maratha agitation for reservations, the colleges in Pune have been shut, following the order by the collector on Wednesday. So, the admission confirmation process which was to be held on August 9 from 11 to 6 pm, has been postponed. Although it has been done keeping in mind the safety of students, it will cause a further delay in the entire procedure and we will have to accommodate an extension for the process to be completed. However, the revised timetable based on these alterations will be revealed later on Thursday.
As per the fourth merit list declared on August 7, 2,850 students have confirmed their admissions so far in the last round of the centralised admission process (CAP).
The total number of seats allocated as per the list is 16,634. Of the total allocation, 6,013 students have received the college allotments as per their first preference. However, 13,784 seats are now vacant after the confirmation of admissions so far. This means that as many as 37,408 students are still without admissions.
