The Bund Garden police have booked a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator for assaulting a doctor at the district hospital early Wednesday.
According to the police, the corporator, identified as Arti Kondhre, is on the run. The complaint was lodged by Dr Snehal Khandagale, 26, employed with Sassoon General Hospital.
When asked about the impending arrest, assistant police inspector (API) AM Patil of Bundgarden police station, who is investigating the case, said, “We are looking for the corporator. Her house and office were found locked. Her husband (seen with the corporator at the hospital) is also untraceable.”
“We believe it was the corporator’s son who was admitted to the hospital after he met with an accident. We are yet to speak to the hospital authorities and the accused to verify details,” said Patil.
According to the complaint, Dr Khandagale was on night shift at the hospital’s emergency room when three accident victims were brought in. Kondhre walked in the emergency room and demanded that the doctors pay attention to her relative (son). The doctor submitted in her complaint that she told the corporator that preliminary care has been provided to her relative. However, Kondhre started filming the doctor on her mobile phone. Dr Khandagale put her palm in front of the mobile camera in an attempt to prevent the corporator from filming her stating that it is against the hospital’s policy. The corporator hit the doctor when the latter blocked the camera, according to the doctor’s complaint.
A case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult with an intention of provoking breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Bundgarden police station against the politician.
