Four arrested, bailed for trying to kidnap female police officer, friend

According to the complaint, the four men ‘ambushed’ the officer when she was near Balewadi late night of January 31. Her friend, Ramkumar Shetge, was kidnapped by the four men while the officer escaped. She approached the Hinjewadi police after the incident and reported the matter.

Pune Four men were arrested by the city police on Friday for trying to kidnap a female police officer. The four men were identified as Shashikant Kharat, Suraj Nanavare, Atidya Rokade and Rahul Jadhav, according to the Hinjewadi police. However, the four got bail within a day. Kharat was known to the female police officer.

According to the complaint, the four men ‘ambushed’ the officer when she was near Balewadi late night of January 31. Her friend, Ramkumar Shetge, was kidnapped by the four men while the officer escaped. She approached the Hinjewadi police after the incident and reported the matter.

The four men were produced in a local court on Friday. While Nanavare, Rokade and Jadhav were remanded to magisterial custody, Kharat was handed over to the Shivajinagar police under charges of molestation, according to the Hinjewadi police.

“They were all sent to magisterial custody. The Shivajinagar police took Kharat’s custody in a molestation case,” said police inspector Ranganath Unde of Hinjewadi police station.

The four were arrested under Section 363 (kidnapping), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Hinjewadi police station. “We arrested him (Kharat) in a molestation case yesterday (Friday) and he was bailed today (Saturday). We have taken preventive action against him under Section 110 of CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure),” said senior police inspector (PI) Prabhakar Shinde of Shivajinagar police station.
