Kedgaon Shiv Sena double murder investigation transferred to CID

The families of the deceased had mounted a protest on Saturday in Ahmednagar alleging a warped investigation by the five-member special investigation team (SIT) appointed by Rajankumar Sharma, superintendent of police, Ahmednagar city police.

The investigation in the Kedgaon double murder of Shiv Sena leaders was handed over to the criminal investigation department (CID), according to the Ahmednagar city police.

Vinoy Kumar Choubey, special inspector general of Nashik range, had written to Sanjay Kumar, additional director general (ADG) of CID, on Monday to take over the investigation.

Sanjay Kotkar, deputy chief of Shiv Sena's Ahmednagar unit and Vasant Thube, party leader from Ahmednagar, was shot and attacked with sharp weapons on April 8 in Shahunagar area of Kedgaon. The two murders took place on the day of the by-elections for Ward 32 (Kedgaon) of the Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation. Congress leader Vishal Kotkar won the civic bypoll.

A case under Sections 302, 303, 120(b), 143, 144, 147, 148, 149, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC0 and Sections 3, 4/25 of the Arms Act was registered against 31 people at the Kotwali police station of Ahmednagar City police.

Special IG Choubey's letter to ADG (CID) Kumar directs SP Sharma to hand over the case diary and all other documents to the CID office in Pune.
