Mentally challenged woman alleges rape by 35-year-old in Pune

The woman filed a complaint stating that the man raped her in Dushkal slum near Tadiwala Road around.

A 24-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old man identified as Ashok Gangaram Shelar (35).

The woman filed a complaint stating that the man raped her in Dushkal slum near Tadiwala Road around 2:40 pm on Wednesday. A case was registered with the city police late on the same day.

She immediately approached the police who verified her mental condition with a medical certificate from Sassoon General Hospital. It was not immediately known if the man knew the woman. According to police, Ashok Shelar is a plumber by profession.

The case was registered at Bund Garden police station.

Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Chavan is the investigating officer in the case. The man has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 376. Further details are awaited.
