As per the forecast released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Pune, no rains are expected in the city till June 19, but the weather is expected to be cloudy. Rains have been predicted by IMD in parts of south Konkan and Goa from June 16 onwards.
According to IMD, total rainfall received by Pune since June 1 this year has been 61.9 mm, which is 1.8 mm less than the rainfall received last year during the same period.
Even as Pune has remained comparatively dry, the country as a whole and the rest Maharashtra are reporting excess rainfall.
Between June 1 to June 11, India has recorded 19 per cent excess rainfall, while Maharashtra witnessed 114 per cent excess rainfall.
"The parts in Maharashtra which have received excess rainfall are mainly Konkan, Marathwada and Vidarbha," said an official from IMD.
Districts in Maharashtra which have received excess rainfall till June 13 include Mumbai which has recorded 282.7 mm of rain, which is an excess of 159 mm when compared to the average; Mahabaleshwar recorded 253.4mm rainfall which is an increase by 36.7 mm; and Nashik which has till date recorded rainfall of 37.6 mm, an excess of 10.2 mm. Ahmednagar too recorded 43.8 mm of rain since June 1, which is 2.6 mm more than the average.
Marathwada, which is known to be drought prone, has in the first 12 days recorded 113.8 mm of rainfall against the expected rainfall of 42.2 mm, which is an excess of 168 mm. Vidarbha, too recorded 97.3 mm rainfall in the first 12 days, as against the expected rainfall of 30.4 mm.
