Nursing councils from across the country have written to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) demanding the immediate removal of T Dileep Kumar, current president of the Indian Nursing Council (INC).
Kumar is an accused in a Rs 225-crore corruption case which come to light in 2006.
Ramling Mali, former president, Maharashtra Nursing Council, said, “We wrote to the PMO demanding Kumar’s removal from the post. He has allegedly accepted bribes from six nursing institutes across the country who failed inspection. A case against Kumar still continues to be on trial and for a fair and free trial, the Union ministry should remove him. This has not happened and is totally against the council’s interest.”
The national body regulates nurses and education pertaining to nursing in India, of which Kumar has been the president since 2000.
Kumar, when contacted, said, “The ongoing case has nothing to do with my position.The case has been going on since the last 12 years and nothing has been proven yet. There are vested interest of people who are opposing my position here and especially Ramling Mali, who was suspended from our national council for his anti-INC activities last year. Since his suspension, he has turned vengeful and is demanding my removal.”
Shiv Kumar, president, Karnataka state nursing association, said, “Kumar is known to rig elections in order to retain his position. He has been known to serve as the president of INC since 2000 which explains it all. He should leave the office until proven innocent in the 2006 scam.”
