A 44-year-old businessman who ran a money transfer business at Rahatni under the Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation (PCMC) near here was shot dead by a motorcycle-borne assailant on Monday night at around 11.30 pm. The assailant’s companion then picked up a black bag being carried by the businessman which contained cash worth Rs 1.96 lakh, and fled from the spot on the motorcycle. The deceased was identified as Anil Raghunath Dhotre, 44, a businessman who ran a money transfer business by the name Jyoti Tours and Travels at Panchpir chowk in Kalewadi area of Rahatnni. He had downed the shutters at 11.20 pm on Monday and was riding on his Royal Enfield two-wheeler towards his residence in Prabhat Colony, Rahatni, when the incident took place, police said.

{{/usCountry}}The victim’s brother Rajkumar Dhotre, 50, lodged an FIR in connection with the murder, following which the police invoked the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 302, 394 and the Arms Act against the suspects.
Sunil Pinjan, police inspector (crime), said that no clues had emerged about the assailants.
“The CCTV footage obtained from the camera is unclear and we have sent it for forensic investigation to get sharper images of the assailants. Teams have been formed to crack the case,” he said. No arrests were made at the time of going to the press.
Police said that Dhotre ran a small office with a staff of two persons. The incident has sent shock waves in the area with residents demanding intensified patrolling on the streets during the night.
