As elected members raised various objections at the general body meeting over tree cutting process, commissioner assured them that the issues will be sorted. Kumar even assured that if needed, inquiry would be carried out in earlier tree cutting permissions.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) carried out agitations over tree cutting issue and also raised concerns over allowing municipal commissioner to grant permissions directly without a nod from the tree authority. In the wee hours of Sunday, civic authorities cut 11 trees on Raj Bhavan Marg, triggering protests from environmental activists. The trees were cut for road widening purpose to accommodate the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).

Commissioner said that this decision has been taken by the state government for all the municipal corporation and it is not the administration’s decision.
