Officials from India Meteorological Department (IMD) have stated that even as monsoon has started withdrawing from northern parts of central Maharashtra, there is no immediate respite from the rains for Puneites. IMD has predicted that the rainfall intensity will reduce after October 16 in Pune and from October 17 to October 20, the sky will continue to remain cloudy next week.

Heavy rains have continued to play havoc dampening the festive mood in the city for the past few days. The rainfall recorded in the city on Friday was the highest the city has seen in the month of October since 2011. On Sunday too, Pune experienced heavy rainfall. Till 8.30 am on Sunday, Pune had recorded 19.7 mm rainfall while from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, the city recorded 4.4mm rainfall.

Officials from IMD said that this time, warnings were issued predicting heavy rainfall in central Maharashtra including Pune. “By next week, the monsoon is expected to withdraw from the entire state,” said head of IMD’s climate monitoring and analysis group, AK Srivastava.
