The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) will launch its centenary celebrations by organising a special exhibition on Lord Ganesh during Ganeshotsav next month in the city. The institute will conduct various activities throughout the year.
Bhupal Patvardhan and Rahul Solapurkar of BORI told media persons on Thursday that eminent scholar Dr MK Dhawlikar, who is involved in research on Lord Ganesh, will help the institute for the exhibition. The exhibition – Ganesh – Lord of Asia – will display various forms and information about Lord Ganesh. It will be open for public during Ganeshotsav.
BORI has undertaken an ambitious project of digitalisation of all the books, manuscripts and items. Patvardhan and Solapurkar said that Dr RG Bhandarkar donated 2,700 books to the institute, which have been digitalised. All other books, manuscripts and items will be digitalised in the next three years.
BORI plans to set up a ‘virtual museum’, where all preserved manuscripts and books will be displayed. They said that list of all the books with BORI is available on the website under the e-library scheme. The BORI campus is already connected with internet through WiFi as a part of the digitalisation process.
BORI will organise an international seminar on Abhinavgupta (C950-1016 AD), known philosopher from Kashmir. Solapurkar and Patvardhan said Abhinavgupta is also considered as a musician, poet, and dramatist. Stating the significance of Abhinavgupta, they said that he studied human life and wrote over 35 books. Abhinavgupta’s book – Tantraloka is based on philosophical and practical aspect of Shaivism in Kashmir. The seminar, which will be held in association with RC Dhere cultural studies and Sarhad, will be held in December this year.
