Pune trader booked for sales tax evasion worth over Rs 4.2 crore

The owner of a concrete readymix provider company was booked for evading sales tax worth over Rs 4.2 crore over eight years. The man was identified as Bhausaheb JAisingh Sonawane, a resident of Kondhwa.
The company was identified as Messrs Hari Om Readymix located in Kondhwa Khurd area of Pune. The company failed to pay tax on their income through sale between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2016, according to the police.
The company managed to evade sales tax worth Rs 4,27,36,748, the complainant claimed. The owner of the company and the company itself were booked for evading tax as well as cheating the government and the income tax department. The company is involved in trade of concrete used in construction and related businesses.
The case, registered on Wednesday, is being investigated by assistant police inspector (API) Chetan More of Kondhwa police station. "When the income tax officers realised the evasion in 2016, they asked him to pay it. However, as he failed to pay in the following two years, they decided to file a case. We have not yet found him," said API More.
The complaint in the matter was filed by Nilam Dhumal, 30, a tax inspector at the Goods and Services Tax bhavan located in Yerawada, Pune.
A case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 417 (punishement for cheating), 418(cheating with knowledge that wrongful loss may ensue to person whose interest offender is bound to protect) and 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with Sections 74(3)(h), 74(3)(m), 74(3)(n), 74(4) and 74(5) of Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act, 2002 was registered against the company at Kondhwa police station.
