The cyber cell of Pune Police will launch an initiative to help students and teachers in the city to fight against cyber crime. Sudhir Hiremath, deputy commissioner of police (cyber crime and economic offence wing), said that the initiative will be launched in three parts.
The programme will launch a game called ‘Wise Whale’ to counter the effects of Blue Whale suicide game, DCP Hiremath said.
The initiative aims to reach more than 100 schools and colleges. The police also want to reach more than 20,000 students and over 1,000 teachers in these schools and colleges, according to DCP Hiremath.
In the first part of #WeFightCC, the students of schools and colleges will be approached through various online and offline outreach programmes between November 5 and 15. The police will hold elocution competitions, slogan competitions and other offline competitions. The initiative will have its own presence on social media and a portal named ‘We Fight CC’ will be added to the Pune police website.
For 10 days after November 15, the police will train teachers about protection against various types of cyber crimes. “The teachers will be trained in batches of 50. They will also be trained to identify students who show symptoms of online crimes like cyber bullying,” said DCP Hiremath.
In the final phase, cyber experts and psychiatrists will visit campuses and share information about the subject with the students. DCP Hiremath claimed that the spread of positive use of internet as a platform is the key to deal with cyber crime.
