Police department's tall claims of being prepared to maintain law and peace in the city on Holi proved to be not enough to control the hooligans, as more than 255 emergency cases were reported in the Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital on Friday, including 99 Medico Legal Reports (MLR).

The emergency and MLR cases continued to float in civil hospital even on Saturday.

Despite being a holiday, the emergency medical officers (EMO's) and other staff members at the civil hospital remained on their toes all the day till midnight due to injury cases.

Due to heavy rush of the patients and cases, senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu had deployed other doctors and surgeons also to look after the patients coming in emergency.

Two surgeons, an orthopaedician and a physician were also deputed in the emergency department on Friday with emergency medical officers.

There were long queues outside emergency department for treatment as well as for filing of MLR cases on Saturday too.
Dr Sidhu said, “Friday remained a hectic day for us, more than 255 cases reported in emergency, which included 99 MLR cases. We sat in the hospital till 1am. The number of patients even increased on Saturday.”

Besides MLR cases, patients with burns, injuries in road accidents and with allergies came in large numbers. Most of the people belonged to the labour class hailing from UP and Bihar.
