In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old mentally-challenged woman was alleged raped in a hospital by her uncle on Monday.
The patient, belonging to a village near Fazilka, was admitted to a local government mental hospital as her mental health was affected following her father’s death in February.
As per the victim’s complaint registered in Civil Lines police station, she was raped by her maternal uncle, identified as Inder Singh. The family, including the uncle, was staying with her at the family care unit of the hospital.
The complainant said that she was sexually abused by the accused, Singh, when she was laying on her bed after taking her medicines.
Following her cries, the accused fled the spot.
Dr BL Goyal, director of the government mental hospital said, “The victim is mentally unstable. The patient and her family pleaded to be discharged from the hospital after the incident. She was under the custody of her mother in the family care unit of the mental hospital.”
A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.
