Additional district and sessions judge Shalini S Nagpal on Friday acquitted five persons employed with the Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA) after nearly 17 years of being booked by the vigilance department.
Those acquitted are Gurmukh singh (48), who was then posted as a clerk; the then registration authority Dalip Singh (72); branch in-charge Meet Singh (61); Rajesk Kumar (40); and Bhim Sen (44).
All accused were acquitted after the prosecution failed to prove the allegations of cheating, forgery and corruption against them.
While two other accused Rajinder Singh and Yash Pal died during the pendency of the trial and another accused Jatinder Kumar was declared proclaimed offender.
The UT vigilance department on August 20, 1996, had booked eight persons employed with the RLA on the charges of issuing registration certificate for a two cars and one scooter on fake sales vouchers.
As per the vigilance department, the accused had forged a sale voucher of Rs 2,250 and two vouchers of Rs 530 each as road tax, but the same was never deposited with the accounts department. The court had framed charges against them in November 2004.
