60-year-old woman raped by neighbour in Ludhiana

No one came to her rescue, despite her screams for help. The accused then raped her in his room, before fleeing the scene.

A resident of Focal Point area has been booked for allegedly raping his 60-year-old neighbour.

In her complaint to the police, the elderly woman alleged that she was alone at home on Friday, as her son and daughter-in-law were out of town. Their neighbour, Mahavir Singh, 35, suddenly barged into her house and dragged her to his rented accommodation. No one came to her rescue, despite her screams for help. The accused then raped her in his room, before fleeing the scene.

She went to her house, and narrated the incident to her son and daughter-in-law after their return, following which they approached the police with a complaint.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jaspal Singh, who is investigating the case, said the accused and the victim belong to migrant families. He said the police had launched a manhunt to arrest Mahavir after booking him under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
