With a view to providing hassle-free services to residents, the Punjab government will set up 66 unified service delivery (USD) centres in the district, offering more than 200 citizen-centric services in urban as well as rural areas under a single roof.
The Rs 12.94 crore project funded by the state government has been awarded to the public works department (PWD), Punjab Mandi Board (PMB) and panchayati raj department for execution.
The deputy commissioner will be the nodal officer of these centres. As per information, the 66 USD centres, including 12 type-2 centres at the cost of Rs 24.94 lakh each and 54 centres of type-3 costing Rs 18.55 lakh each, will be set up in the district and are expected to be completed before June 30 this year.
The authorities have identified the locations at where the centres will be constructed, with each centre covering a radius of around 5km for availing the facility.
Once the centres get functional, the services will be made available to the residents at their doorsteps in a hassle-free manner in a time-bound manner.
At present, the residents of villages and urban areas are dependent on suwidha centres situated at subdivisions to avail these facilities.

{{/usCountry}}According to the plan, 12 USD centres (type-2) centres will be constructed in high-population areas, e.g. three in Kapurthala city, two in Phagwara while one each in Sultanpur Lodhi, Begowal, Bholath, Dhilwan, Nadala, Talwandi Chaudhrian and Kala Sanghya.
Fifty four USD centres (type-3) will be constructed in rural areas. PWD executive engineer Pawan Kumar said they have received tender bids.
“Once the process of allotting tenders is completed, construction of the centres will be started immediately,” he said.
Major services such as BPL (below-poverty line) cards, driving licences, birth and death certificates, police verification and attestation of documents can also be availed by from USD centres.
