7-crore project for solar street lights in Amritsar

Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, chief parliamentary secretary health and family welfare Punjab, met the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) director Balour Singh at Punjab Bhawan Chandigarh to discuss the issue of using solar energy to power street lights in Amritsar.

Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, chief parliamentary secretary health and family welfare Punjab, met the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) director Balour Singh at Punjab Bhawan Chandigarh to discuss the issue of using solar energy to power street lights in Amritsar.

The meeting concluded that a Rs 7-crore project would be taken up in the initial stages to provide solar street-lighting to 70 villages in Amritsar. The cost for the project would be shared by Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, the PEDA and the Central government.

Dr Sidhu added that the target was to cover each village in Amritsar using solar lighting.

Dr. Sidhu said that creating awareness and publicity among the general masses was important. She added that village camps would be organised to make people aware of the benefits of solar energy
