The decision over the bail application filed by liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda, alias Sholly, for the Bhim Sain Tank murder case has been adjourned by the Supreme Court till March 6 on Monday. Doda's earlier pleas for bail, before a local court and the Punjab and Haryana High court, were rejected.
During Monday’s hearing in the court of justice AK Sikri, the prosecution counsel opposed the bail while presenting before court all documents related to recent registration of a case against Doda besides 25 others for holding an illegal meeting inside the Fazilka sub-jail. “Doda allegedly has direct patronage of the ruling SAD-BJP government and did not bother about law even inside jail; hence acceptance of his bail application may hamper the trail of brutal murder of 27-year-old Dalit man Bhim Sain Tank,” said the counsel.
It may be recalled here that Doda, after seeking special permission from the district court, had filed nomination papers an independent nominee from Abohar in the February 4 Punjab polls; but later announced support to BJP nominee Arun Narang. Doda was one of the richest nominees with assets worth Rs 144 crore.
Doda, along with his nephew Amit, besides 24 other persons, were booked and arrested for the brutal murder of Tank and attempt to murder Gurjant Singh at Doda’s farmhouse in Abohar on December 11,2015. Last months, after they were found holding an illegal meeting inside the Fazilka jail, Doda and Amit were transferred to the Amritsar jail .
