There is a disparity in the complainant's statement and the ground reality, said police. Besides, the strength of the acid was very low, which also raised doubts, they said.

The police have booked Vikas Dhir, her brother-in from her earlier marriage; Kaka, Sambar and an unidentified car driver, on charges of attempt to murder, bid to kidnap and conspiracy, on Manju's statement. All accused are at large and the police are conducting raids to nab them.

Dhir alleged that she was abducted and later acid was thrown at her to kill her.

According to police, the woman had divorced her husband about 10 months ago. She was fighting a property case with her in-laws, who demanded the custody of her 10-year-old son.
