Continuing their tirade against Congress candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat Captain Amarinder Singh, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders on Monday said that the former chief minister had been rejected by the people of Punjab time and again since the 2007 assembly polls.
In a statement issued here, the Akali leaders from Majha region said Amarinder had twice led the Congress party in the assembly polls since 2007, only to suffer defeat at the hands of the SAD-BJP alliance which stormed to power for a second consecutive term in 2012 under the leadership of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The signatories to the statement were Punjab revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, animal husbandry minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, chief parliamentary secretary Inderbir Singh Bolaria, district planning board chairman Vir Singh Lopoke and SAD district president Upkar Singh Sandhu.
The SAD leaders alleged that Captain Amarinder Singh has lost the people's mandate already and wondered as to how he would ask for votes now.
LOW ATTENDANCE IN ASSEMBLY
Terming Captain Amarinder Singh as a 'total failure' as an MLA, they said that his attendance in the assembly is one of the worst among the MLAs in the state. As per the claims of the SAD leaders, the Vidhan Sabha had 88 sittings in the last seven years and Amarinder attended only 12 of these.
They also claimed that there is no match between Arun Jaitley, who is a national leader, and Amarinder Singh. "Jaitley is known for raising issues of public interest in the Parliament. He talks sense and ponders upon issues with reason, even suggesting their solutions. Amarinder just rakes personal issues and always resorts to un-parliamentary language, which does not behove the senior leaders," said the Akali leaders.
They said Captain was first elected as an MLA from Samana in 1992 and after taking oath of office, he never attended the House. They said instead of attending the house and addressing public issues he had been issuing meaningless public statements like 'fatte chakk diyange', which speaks large about his style of working.
Regarding Captain's claims about his availability in the Moti Mahal from morning till evening, the Akali leaders alleged that he is telling a blatant lie as he is never available to the people and his party workers. "When he is not available to his own party leaders, how will he be available to the people of the state," they asked.
WRONG STATISTICS ON AMARINDER
Akali media managers seem to have not done their home work well as they got wrong statistics on Capt Amarinder Singh's maiden entry into Punjab assembly.
The statement attributed to various SAD ministers and leaders from the Majha region claimed that the former chief minister was elected for the first time to the state assembly in 1991 from the Samana constituency. However, the fact is that Amarinder had made maiden entry to the assembly in 1985 when he won from Talwandi Sabo constituency on SAD ticket.
