The police recovered a diary from his room, in which he had sought apology from his family members and police officials for his extreme step.

The police officers said he was upset for the past few days, but they were not aware of the reason behind him taking this step.

After conducting a post-mortem examination at the civil hospital, the police handed over the body to his family.

Victim’s son Gurinder Singh was first to witness his father hanging from a ceiling fan after he returned home after having his breakfast at an eatery.

Shocked Gurinder raised the alarm following which neighbours gathered at the spot and rushed the ASI to SPS Apollo Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP, south) Rupinder Kaur Saran and inspector Jatinder Singh, station house officer of the Daba police station, reached at the spot and initiated investigation.

The ACP said Nirmal was a native of Tarn Taran and his son Gurinder was visiting him.

“On Monday, when Nirmal did not go for his duty till 9am his son asked him about the reason.

Nirmal told him that he will join the duty by 10am. After the conversation, Gurinder went out for breakfast,” the ACP said.

“In the diary, Nirmal has also left a message for his wife, asking her to take care of their children. He has also asked his children to take care of their mother,” the ACP added.

The ACP further said the police have been investigating the matter and trying to find the reason behind his extreme step.

Nirmal was transferred to Ludhiana over two years ago, after being promoted as ASI from head constable. Earlier, he was deputed at Tarn Taran.

On Sunday, an ASI with the anti-human trafficking wing Harvinder Singh, 40, died after consuming some poisonous substance on Saturday. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he died.
