Residents have urged the municipal corporation (MC) to take steps to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases in the area. They claimed people in the area are already suffering from diarrhoea because they are forced to drink the unhygienic water. They complain that they have no other source of water.

“People of our area are forced to drink unhygienic water from public water supply which causes water-borne diseases,” said Deepak Puri, a resident of B-Tank. He said the area has also reported an increase in the cases of abdominal diseases.

“The municipal administration should replace the decades old water pipelines which have rusted,” he added.

Another resident informed that they submitted a written complaint to the MC officials about 15 days ago about poor water availability. However, nothing has changed, he said.

He said some residents are also using tullu-pumps which affect the supply. The MC officials are doing nothing in this regard.

Civil surgeon Patiala, Dr Subodh Gupta said, “We will take the samples of the water from the affected area for testing and act according to the reports of the samples.”
