Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal visited the house of Vidhu Jain, 12, at Chota Chowk on Tuesday. The boy was burnt alive by unidentified miscreants on September 30.
"The state government will ensure that the murderers are arrested soon. No effort will be spared in bringing the guilty to book," Badal told the family.
He added that a high-level police team was investigating the case and a breakthrough was expected soon.
He added that the sacrifice of Vidhu Jain would help expose people who wanted to divide residents on communal lines.
"We are keeping a close tab on communal forces. The culprits in this case will be given exemplary punishment."
He lauded the role of Malerkotla residents who, he said, exercised restraint and did not allow the killing to take a communal turn.
He also thanked the residents for cooperating with the police and the administration.
