As per retailers dealing in the business, kites with ‘messages of love’ are in demand more than those with Modi images.

“Last year, the kites bearing photos of Narendra Modi were more in demand. This time, the sale of these kites has gone down considerably,” said Raj Kumar, who sells kites on Amrik Singh road here. Kumar further said that he had sold about 5,000 kites bearing Modi photos last Basant Panchami and had run out of stock. “This year I had bought about 1,000 ‘Modi kites’ and am finding it tough to clear the stock. Customers are refusing to buy them despite my insistence,” he said.

Another trader Gaurav on Quila road said, “The kites bearing Modi photos were in high demand last year. This year, seeing customers’ response, I didn’t order them. Youngsters are asking for kites bearing love symbols and messages.”

Trader Prem Kumar said trends change on yearly basis. “This season kites with love messages and symbols are in trend and those with photos of Modi are less in demand. As compared to last year, the sale of Modi-kites this year is negligible,” he said.
