Duplicate bicycle parts from China that enter the country from different routes were affecting the business of established Ludhiana companies. These parts are brought into the country mostly in containers from different sea routes.

Federation of Associations of Small Industries of India (FASII) president Badish Jindal said, "Duplicate cycle parts from China were severely affecting Ludhiana industry that is famous for its bicycles and cycle parts.

Strict measures are required to be taken by the central government, so that movement of these duplicate items could be stopped."

In April this year, when a delegation of United Cycle Parts and Manufacturer Association (UCPMA) visited China to take part in 24th China Cycle and Motor Fair Show 2014, UCPMA president Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma was surprised to see an industrial unit that was manufacturing goods of his company.

Duplicate cycle parts of companies of national and international repute from China have become a common thing. Cycle companies, including Hero Cycles Limited, Avon cycles and many others have suffered losses due to duplicate parts from China.

Ludhiana being a hub of cycle industry is badly hit by the cheap duplicate parts manufactured in China. Majority of these duplicate items are sold in eastern parts of the country, as these parts reach the Kolkata port in large containers.

Two containers filled with bicycle seats of Big Ben Exports based in Ludhiana were caught by customs department at Kolkata a year ago.

Duplicate parts from China, include chains, peddle, lever, spokes, steel balls, basket bearing the names of big brands of Ludhiana.

A bicycle parts manufacturer said these days some of the companies were importing cycle parts from Chinese companies and putting their stamps on them.
