An undertrial roped in two men to execute a murder from jail. This is the common thread the Panchkula and SAS Nagar police have found in their investigations in the murder of bouncer Amit Sharma alias Meet, who was shot dead by two assailants near a Saketri temple on Monday, but they are yet to make any arrest.

Gagandeep Singh, the alleged mastermind and prime accused who is already lodged in Punjab’s high-security Nabha jail in an arms case, has been grilled in this connection.

Though all theories being floated point towards Gagandeep and his accomplices, sources say these revelations are still not backed by sufficient evidence.

It was the Panchkula police which first claimed that Meet’s old business rival Gagandeep along his two associates Sonu Shah and Surjeet Singh executed the murder and then they began the process to get his custody from the Nabha jail. SAS Nagar police had arrested Gagandeep in Kharar last year on charges of illegal supply of arms.

But Panchkula cops faced embarrassment when a day after Meet’s murder, their SAS Nagar counterparts got Gagandeep’s custody and then claimed that he planned the killing from inside jail with the help of Amandeep Singh Mani and Harjinder Singh Ladi, both from Zirakpur.

“We still are not sure whether Mani and Ladi are the real killers and it will be known only when we get Gagandeep’s custody,” he said. SAS Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal said, “We only acted swiftly in the case on a tip-off and shared all their inputs with our Panchkula counterparts.”

VICKY GOUNDER LINK STILL UNEXPLORED

The police of both cities are tightlipped on the alleged links of Punjab’s dreaded criminal Vicky Gounder with this murder. Vicky and Gagan both met in Nabha jail. Amit’s aides have also denied having any direct conflict with Vicky.

Mahender Singh, incharge of Mansa Devi Complex station where this case is registered said that Gagan will be in their custody on Monday as their application is already accepted in local court.

BUSINESS RIVALRY?

Panchkula police say Solid Manpower, a firm supplying bouncers to clubs, run by Gagandeep, who along with Sonu Shah and Surjeet Singh had business rivalry with Amit Sharma’s firm The Black Bull, leading to the murder.
