City residents are infuriated over the fuel and gas prices hike, which was imposed from Monday midnight. Residents said that it was very disturbing that the prices of fuel were increasing every now and then.

They said even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had promised that there would be a control on price rise, if he came to power, has failed to take any action in this regard. A hike of Rs 1.69 in petrol, .50 paisa in diesel and Rs 16.50 on non-subsidised LPG cylinders has been implemented.

Anita Sood, a housewife, said the government has fixed subsidised LPG cap to 12, but in a joint family more than 12 cylinders are used very easily in a year, and there is requirement of more.

“After 12 cylinders, we have to pay Rs 16.50 more on every cylinder. It is surprising that the union government that had promised to decrease the prices of essential commodities has failed to fulfill its promises,” Sood said.

A businessman, Avinash Bansal, said, “Government should first try to bring down the inflation that has hit the country. If prices of fuel will go up like this, there will be an immense increase in the price of every commodity. If steps are not taken to reduce inflation in the union budget, the country will have to suffer like it did in the past years.”
