The doctors at Rajpura civil hospital have come up with serious allegations against Patiala chief medical officer (CMO) for allegedly taking money on a monthly from doctors of the hospital.
Putting their complaint before chief parliamentary secretary, health, Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who conducted a raid at the hospital on Thursday, the doctors said such malpractice had been carried out for past several months.
"The doctors have been asked to stop giving money to anyone. Stern action will be taken against the guilty if any doctor or official is found giving or demanding money to each other,"Sidhu said.
Sidhu was on her visit following complaints against doctors charging money from patients for providing treatment.
However, this was not for the first time that such charges had been traded against CMO Dr Varinder Singh Mohi.
In February 2012, doctors levelled same charges against Dr Mohi for extracting money from them. At that time, the doctors alleged that Dr Mohi had harassed them for past few months as they had not paid `7 lakh as demanded by the CMO. The doctors also alleged that they had paid Rs 1.13 lakh in October 2012.
Sidhu also urged the doctors to immediately shift a private laboratory opened near to the main gate of the hospital. After interacting with the patients, she said the visitors have complained against one of the doctors for charging extra fee for surgery.

Sidhu also instructed doctors and paramedical staff to maintain decorum in the hospital and carry required instruments during duty hours.
However, Dr Mohi refuted all the allegations against him and said, "All the allegations are false. I took no money from anyone."
