The state Congress on Thursday demanded the immediate suspension of inspector and sub-inspector over the incident in Nabha where Akali workers allegedly broke a youth's legs for trying to lodge a complaint against them for eve-teasing his nieces.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Nimisha Mehta alleged that "Akali goons" had broken the legs of Gurpreet, who had tried to lodge a complaint with the police about the eve-teasing of his nieces.
Mehta said, "The government should immediately suspend the inspector and sub inspector who extended a protective cover to the Akali workers."
Punjab Congress sought a case to be registered against inspector Sukhbir Singh and sub-inspector Satnam Singh for neglect of duty and cautioned the police against "dancing to the tune of Akali workers".
Calling Akalis' rule as 'Jungle Raj', Mehta said, "Instead of registering a case against the accused, the police protected them," she added.
The matter was first reported by Hindustan Times on September 9, following which a case of eve teasing was registered against the accused.
"The failure to register the complaint immediately and the education department expelling the girls from school, under pressure from the Akalis is a clear indication of 'jungle raj' in the state," said Mehta.

{{/usCountry}}This is not the first instance where Akali workers, under the protection from Punjab police, have hurt the pride of women in the state, she said.
"What can you expect from workers whose party president disregards women," questioned Mehta.
