A local contractor has alleged favouritism and partiality by the municipal council in allotting tenders for the developmental works worth Rs 1.54 crore.
In his complaint submitted to the deputy commissioner and forwarded to the office of deputy director, local bodies, Pardeep Kumar, a Preet Nagar resident, claimed the executive officer, Kapurthala, misinformed him saying the tenders had been cancelled.
"On Friday, I kept waiting along with several other contractors and representatives of cooperative societies. Executive engineer SK Aggarwal informed me that no forms would be issued today and the staff left the office by 6.45 pm. I stayed back apprehending they might come in late hours, as they had done earlier, but no one turned up till 8 pm," said Pardeep.
He said the municipal engineer did not even mark his application for allotment of tenders. Pardeep alleged that the whole tendering process took place at some hotel in Kartarpur which was a blatant violation of rules and regulations.
Deputy director, local bodies, Pritam Singh, said, "I am not aware of the issue. On Monday, I will go through the contents of the complaint and will seek report. The appropriate action will be taken if any discrepancy is found."

In a press conference held on Sunday, the Congress councillors alleged that the civic body had floated the tenders for the work which had been already completed. Terming the process as an eye-wash, the councillors demanded probe saying it was a big scam. "The tender forms were given to selected persons setting aside all the rules," said councillor Surinder Pal Singh Khalsa.

"Favouritism is prevalent in the municipal council. Works get started even without work orders," alleged Sat Pal Mehra, another councillor.
They have urged the state government to order a probe.
