Infuriated with the love marriage of their daughter with a boy of same caste, the girl's relatives have allegedly attacked the couple while they were coming back from Ramdas Gurdwara here on Thursday.
At Civil Hospital, Dera Baba Nanak, injured Malkait Singh, a resident of Dharamkot Randhawa said he had a relationship with Harpreet Kaur, who was living at her maternal uncle's house at Ghoneywal village; but her relatives denied to accept their relationship. However, on July 17 they solemnised their marriage at Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Harpreet's relatives started threatening the couple of dire consequences after they came to know about their marriage; and since then the couple had been living away from their house.
On Friday morning, when they were coming back from Gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib on their motorcycle, Harpreet's uncles, Gurmeet Singh and Tajinder Singh along with dozens of armed persons stopped them and attacked them with iron and wooden rods.
The passersby rushed to the couple's rescue and forced the miscreants to flee from the spot.
