More than 40% currency offerings at the Mansa Devi temple on Wednesday and Thursday were made in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes that have been pulled out of circulation.
“Today, we started counting offerings in donation boxes. We found 368 notes of Rs 500 ( Rs 1.84 lakh) and 47 of Rs 1,000 denomination among others,” said VG Goyal, chief executive officer (CEO), Mansa Devi Shrine Board.
On November 8, only 161 currency notes of Rs 500 and 34 of Rs 1,000 were offered, making a total of Rs 1.14 lakh. “It appeared that not only people continued to donate in demonetised currency notes but donated more after that. On November 8, donations in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 amounted to Rs 1.14 lakh while in the next two days it reached Rs 2.31 lakh which is more than the double,” said Goyal.
