Gurpreet Kaur, 24, died under mysterious circumstances on Monday and the police are yet to make an arrest.

Hundreds of protesters blocked the road for around three hours demanding immediate arrest all three accused in the case. Earlier, family members to Gurpreet took her body to the cremation ground but they refused to cremate it until the accused were arrested. The body is lying in the mortuary of local civil hospital.

Gurpreet got married to Satnam Singh of Khilirian village in 2010. Her in-laws allegedly started harassing her for dowry immediately after the marriage. She was found dead on Monday night.

The police booked Gurpreet's husband Satnam Singh, his father Bhura Singh and his sister Hardeep Kaur for demanding dowry and causing death by burns or bodily injury.

The protestors also constituted an action committee comprising members of several farmer unions and residents of Kartarpur village, situated near here, to fight for justice.

The protesters lifted the blockade only after deputy superintendent of police Swarn Singh Khanna assured to soon arrest the accused, who are absconding.
