The car from which the Fatehgarh Sahib police had claimed to have seized drugs two day ago and arrested an aide of kingpin Jagdish Singh "Bhola" belongs to a friend of dismissed sub-inspector Sarabjit Singh and was picked up from the SI's house, his family has said.
The Tata Quails from which the police claimed to have seized 8.5-kg ephedrine, a chemical raw material in the maufacture of heroin, is registered in the name of Tarclochan Singh of Moga, a close friend of Sarbajit Singh. The police claimed to have seized contraband from it at checkpoint on the Chandigarh road on Tuesday and arrested Davinder Singh "Happy".
Sarbjit's brother, Inderjit Singh, however, said the police had taken the car away from their house in Barnala on April 6. The police had claimed that the Quails belonged to Sarabjit, who had assigned Devinder to deliver the ephedrine consignment.
On April 6, the police raidied our house in Barnala to look for my brother, Sarbjit, but found nothing incriminating in five hours of search," Inderjit Singh stated on Thursday in Barnala. “The police took away the Qualis parked in the house at the time of raid, without informing any member of the family. We only came to know from newspapers that the police had claimed to have found drugs inside," he added.
During the raid, there had been chaos in the house, said Inderjit, and police had misbehaved with his old parents and threatened domestic helps. “On April 10, I filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court to recover the vehicle and complain against the rude behaviour of the police," said Sarabjit's brother. "The court has directed the director general of police, Barnala's senior superintendent of police, and the station house officer of Fatehgarh Sahib to submit a reply on May 22."
