In a letter to external affairs minister Salman Khurshid, Khanna appealed to the government to help the bereaved families claim the bodies and perform last rites. "The government should reach out to the bereaved families to find out if they want to cremate the bodies in the US itself or want to bring them home," he demanded, adding that the government must take the matter of overseas killing of Indians seriously and should take it up with concerned counterparts.

"A clear and strong signal must go to all countries that we are concerned for the safety of our people," he added.
