Exam failure drives Ludhiana girl to suicide

Under depression after failing in the Class-12 exams, a 17-year-old girl committed suicide by lying on the railway track before an oncoming train on Wednesday. The train crushed her to death on the Dhuri line.

Under depression after failing in the Class-12 exams, a 17-year-old girl committed suicide by lying on the railway track before an oncoming train on Wednesday. The train crushed her to death on the Dhuri line.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had declared the Class-12 result on Monday, following which Amisha, a resident of Arjun Nagar in Shimlapuri here, had been under stress, according to her family. She was a student of a private school.

Station house officer (SHO), Government Railway Police (GRP), Ludhiana, Inderjit Singh said Amisha’s mother Jeevan Jyoti had identified her body. He said the postmortem would be conducted on Thursday.

Inderjit said, “Her mother claimed that the family had not said anything to Amisha regarding her performance in the exams.”

Another Class-12 student, Ishpreet Kaur, had committed suicide at her house in Sunil Park on the Jassian road here on May 5. It was learnt that she was also under depression due to poor performance in academics.
