The state government policies had forced hundreds of farmers to commit suicide, claimed Tirlok Singh Himmatpura, district president of the BKU.
"The farmers of Charason and Balwera have ploughed the 210-acre fields for 40 years," he said, "and big landlords now want to grab the land without proper documents."

The farmers also asked for regular supply of electricity to the agriculture sector. From the promised eight hours, it had dipped to five hours a day, they said. On Friday, the protesters from Moga will gherao Powercom offices at Badhni Kalan and Ajitwal villages in the district.
