Five employees of the government ayurvedic pharmacy have been put under suspension after they were caught drinking on the pharmacy premises on March 21.

Finding it gross indiscipline, Vini Mahajan, secretary, health and family welfare department, has also written to the local deputy commissioner to submit a charge sheet to the Punjab government pertaining to the case.

Besides, office superintendent Om Prakash, four Class IV employees Krishan Kumar, Daata Ram, Subhash and Rajiv Kumar were suspended.

The then Patiala DC GK Singh had also written to the health department to take strict action against the defaulters and had recommended suspension of the officials.

Technician, staff members found drinking duty hours

In another incident, a technician posted at a biochemistry laboratory at government Rajindra hospital was found drinking liquor during duty hours in laboratory room in ward number 2 on Friday night along with other staff members. The hospital authorities have ordered an inquiry into the matter and had conducted medical test of the technician identified as Bikkar Singh.
