Station house officer Gurvinder Singh, who was leading the police party, said that a Tata 407 pick-up truck was signaled to stop at around 1.30am as police suspected that some anti-social elements were traveling in it.
Though the driver of the vehicle bearing a Haryana registration number stopped, its four passengers refused to step out.
When police started pressuring them to step out to reveal their identity and reason for moving in the area at that hour, the four come out and started firing. They fled the spot but left the vehicle behind.
On the statement of SHO, a case has been registered against four unidentified persons on the charges of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act.
The vehicle owner has been traced to Delhi. The four accused would be nabbed soon. The SHO said it appeared that the four were part of a gang of thieves operating in the area.
