The district police on Friday recovered the decomposed body of a 24-year-old man of Awankha village falling under jurisdiction of Dinanagar police station. Deceased Parvesh Kumar had gone missing on July 21.
Police said Parvesh had died of suspected drug overdose.
Addressing a press conference here, Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Swarndeep Singh said they had received a phone call from Parvesh’s father Ashok Kumar informing that his son was missing.
“On the statement of Ashok, police registered an FIR under Section 364 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started a thorough investigation into the matter,” the SSP said.
He said during investigation, it was found that due to shortage of intoxicating synthetic drug in the district, Parvesh with his friends Balwinder, Kala and Gunni, all residents of Awankha village, had gone to Chhanni Beli in Himachal Pradesh to buy contraband.
“One of Parvesh’s friends injected drug into his vein through a syringe, which worsened his condition allegedly due to overdose. As they had gone to Himachal on a motorcycle, his friends decided to leave him outside a temple. However, they later returned in a hired car and picked Parvesh from the temple, but he died on the way back,” the SSP added.
“Parvesh’s friends have confessed to later dumping his body at a sugarcane field in Maidanpur village that falls under the jurisdiction of Taragarh police station. The decomposed body was recovered on Thursday night,” he said.

Police have arrested two of Parvesh’s friends, Balwinder and Kala, while Gunni is absconding. A case under Sections 364, 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information) of the IPC has been registered at the Dinanagar police station. Postmortem report of is, however, awaited.
